Sunday Afternoon Naturalists: Trees
Sunday, August 20, 2017 - 1:30pm to 2:30pm
Ages: Recommended for teens and adults
$1 per person

Join one of our Educators as we hike through Black Pond Woods each week to see what’s happening! This week we will be diving into Dendrology--the study of trees. Visit the Oak Savannah, learn to tell a mulberry bush from a Tulip Tree, and use guides and keys to identify the common-and less common-trees at our site. Bring your own guide, or borrow one of ours!

Fireside Fun- A Good Old-Fashioned Campfire Circle

There's nothing quite as relaxing as sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and swapping stories. One Sunday a month, we'll be stoking the fires here at LSNC. Bring your family, friends, camp chairs, outdoor games, and s'mores fixings. We'll provide a blazing outdoor campfire and plenty of marshmallows. This event is rain or shine (except for thunder and lightening), so come dressed for the weather.

Critters Up Close

Now you have more opportunities to see Critters Up Close every month at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum! We bring a selection of live animals to the Museum and AAHOM offers special animal-oriented hands-on activities. Animals will be meeting and greeting visitors from 10-4 on Saturday (with a mid-day “Animal Naptime”) and 1-4 on Sunday.  This month the featured critters are arachnids!

Monarch Migration Festival
Sunday, September 10, 2017 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm

$7 per person

Each year, waves of Monarch butterflies travel over mountains, forests, and plains in the United States to reach their southern wintering grounds in Mexico. Join LSNC in preserving butterfly habitats and releasing Monarchs to support national conservation efforts. Learn how butterflies are tagged, get your face painted, and meet local experts and vendors supporting butterfly conservation efforts. For more information, please click here.

Pre-registration guarantees a live monarch butterfly to release. Register for this event online, or call 734-997-1553. Space is limited, so register early.

 

Parent's Night Out- Eco Warriors
Friday, September 15, 2017 - 5:00pm to 10:00pm
Ages: Youth currently enrolled in K-6th grades
$30 per child ($25 per member)

It's a night out for grown-ups while the kids enjoy an exciting evening at LSNC. Learn how to protect habitats from invasive species and defend wildlife from The Most Deadly Animal in the World. Complete group challenges and design your own eco-warrior costume. Parents’ Night Out includes a Panera sandwich box with PB&J or Turkey as well as a late-night popcorn snack. Families are welcome to send their child with a dinner from home. Activities will be outside as much as possible, so please come dressed for the weather! This program coincides with Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum's Adults Only Night so both adults and kids can have a fun evening out!

Astronomy Day Star Party
Saturday, October 7, 2017 - 8:00pm to 10:00pm
Ages: Ages 7 and older
$5 per person (free for members)

Join us to celebrate Astronomy Day! The University Lowbrow Astronomers will be leading an evening of star gazing at our site.  This is a chance for you to get "close up views" of stars, planets, nebulae, and other celestial objects that are hard to see without the use of telescopes. 

In the case of cloudy weather, please call our Main Office at (734) 997-1553, or check our Facebook page after 4pm the day of to see if the event is cancelled. In the event of cancellation, we encourage you to join the Lowbrow Astronomers at the Peach Mountain Observatory on Saturday, October 14 at 7pm.
